Who we are
At Sydney Young Nak Presbyterian Church’s English Ministry (SYNC EM), we are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, united in our reformed faith and commitment to the authority of Scripture. We believe in the sovereignty of God, recognising his supreme authority over all creation and history. Our beliefs are rooted in the Bible, which we hold as the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God, the ultimate guide for our faith and practice.
Our Core Beliefs
1. The Triune God
We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person of the Trinity is fully God, equal in power and glory, yet distinct in person.
2. The Authority of Scripture
We affirm that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, completely trustworthy, and the final authority in all matters of faith and life.
3. The Sovereignty of God
We believe that God is sovereign in all things, including creation, providence, and redemption. He rules over all creation with perfect wisdom, justice, and love.
4. Salvation by Grace Alone, Through Faith Alone, in Christ Alone
We believe that salvation is the free gift of God, given by His grace alone, received through faith alone, and found in Christ alone. We are justified by faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
5. The Church
We believe that the Church is the body of Christ, composed of all true believers, called to live in unity and love, and to proclaim the gospel to the world.
6. The Sacraments
We recognize two sacraments instituted by Christ: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These are visible signs and seals of God’s grace, to be observed by the church until Christ returns. We recognise the sign of baptism as a sign of God’s covenantal faithfulness and so baptise the children of believers as part of the covenant community of Christ.
7. The Return of Christ
We believe in the physical return of Jesus Christ, who will come again to judge the living and the dead, bringing the fullness of His kingdom and the restoration of all things.
8. Christian Living
We are called to live lives of holiness, following the example of Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit to love God and our neighbours, and to seek justice, mercy, and humility in all we do.
